Hard, sharp edges are no longer in fashion. Shapes create intrigue in design, and crafters are looking for ways to make their projects more interesting through the use of cutting tools. The launch of the Curvy Cutter and redesign of the Circle Scissor Plus have created a trend toward more creative cropping. Photos are dominating design in sexy, inspiring shapelike ovals, circles and squares with rounded corners.
Decorative edges in borders and photo mats are making a comeback and are easier than ever to cut. Simply slip a decorative shuttle on a paper trimmer to cut a 12x12 paper edge in one clean sweep. Or add a little detail to a paper corner with a decorative punch. Either way, adding some shape will make any design very trendy.
Stop by and see some trendsetting cropping tools and how to use punches, paper trimmers with decorative edges to create outstanding projects.

April - BOTM Club

Book of the Month Club is designed to help educate you to new ideas, techniques and styles through the use of our technique books, specially designed kits and supporting documents. The best part of the Book Club is meeting new friends who share the same enjoyment you have in crafting.

The way it works is simple. Like traditional Bookclubs, our club will have a new Pinecone Press book each month and two kits to take home. After working with your book and kits at home, we meet together the following month to discuss your views and opinions of the book and kits. The difference with the Pinecone Press Bookclub is that along with the technique books and kits, you will receive a study document that is created to go with the selected book each month.

When we meet each month, we gather together to discuss the book and bring the projects that you have created with your kits. These monthly meetings are a time when members share and learn from each other. Month after month you as the group continues to meet and grows, you will become more comfortable and confident with your crafting abilities.
Our Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 30th at 7pm to 9pm. The Cost is $40, which covers your idea book, two kits, book information and demos, monthly membership fees, and a great groups of gals. We still have some March kits and books available for purchase.
Not sure if this club is for you, come on out and see what we are all about. If you want to join, then all you need is pay that night. If you are interested, please call 630-271-0610 and let us know you will be joining us that night. Or, stop by the store and view previous books and kits to see if this club is for you.
See you Monday, April 30th,

Scrapbook Source Wins "IronChef"-sytle Scrapbooking

Memories & Beyond's sister store, Scrapbook Source in Chicago was chosen by the Chicago Tribune Paper to participate in their version of "Iron Chef"-style Scrapbook Challenge back in March. And we accepted the challenge!
The Chicago Tribune pitted two pro scrapbookers, one representing Chicago and the other representing the suburbs to compete head to head. So, we asked our very own Connie Tameling, mom, lawyer, scrapbook instructor and newly announced Honorable Mention of Creating Keepsakes 2007 Hall of Fame.

The Scrapbook Challenge went like this; without knowing what photos Connie would be given to use, she gathered an array of product from our store to bring to the competition with her. She brought her own cutting tools, papers, adhesives embellishment and ribbons to boot. It was like attending a Friday Night Crop. If it's not attached bring it. Connie and I arrived early at the Tribune Towers downtown Wednesday morning. Once everyone was there; our competitor, the cameraman, the video man, the report, the judge and audience, Connie was then given the mystery photos and the them for the scrapbook page. Connie then had one hour to complete her scrapbook page layout. Then, time was up! The pages were complete and the judge chose Connie's page as the winner!!!

You can read and see Connie's winning scrapbook page in the Chicago Tribune Paper today, April 4, 2006, in the At Play section 5A. Also you can view the video clip at . This was a great opportunity for Connie to represent the hobby of scrapbooking and to show off her talent to everyone. Good Job!

Connie's April 2007 Class

Make a Wish . . .
Birthday Layout Class
Tuesday, April 24, 2007, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
$22 - pre-payment required
call 630-271-0610 to reserve your spot
We all probably have a zillion birthday party photos stashed away from years gone by. Do you ever get bored with the same old birthday pages? Well I sure do. This class will show you how to add a little ZING to your typical birthday pages. We will be talking about using brads as a decorative element on your page, as opposed to using them solely to attach things to your layouts or cards. This is a great way to make use of the stash of brads you have been collecting. Also, we will discuss incorporating movement in your design. For my layout I am showing movement of the candle blowing with ribbons and other embellishments. However, don’t shy away from this class just because you don’t have a similar photograph. I’ll show you how you can add movement to your page with the ribbon forming balloon strings, party streamers, etc. So bring your birthday celebration photos (kid or adult - everyone loves a party after all!) and let’s get scrapping. Oh, and one more thing . . . if you want to have your page completed when you walk out the door, you will want to prepare your journaling in advance. The journaling space is approximately 6 inches wide by 2 inches tall, printed on white cardstock.
See you soon!! -- Connie

Below is a list of supplies that might be helpful to bring along to the class.
However, please still come even if you don’t have all of these supplies, as I will bring my own stash to share if needed.
Photos: 1 large focal photo (mine is an 8x10 Black and White cropped to approximately 6x8); 5 smaller photos (mine are all color photos; (3) 3.5x5 and (2) 2x3)Journaling: the space is approximately 6 inches wide by 2 inches tall, printed on white cardstockscissorspaper trimmercorner rounderfabric pinking shears (time to show your faces all you quilters J )
